Wednesday 22nd of November 2017 MaRITeC-X was presented on board Thomson Spirit, of Celestyal Cruises during her visit at the impressive Limassol port. MaRITeC-X was successfully promoted in the 1st Radisson Blu Marathon that took place in Larnaka on the 19th of November. Over 100 local participants –among them officials from the Larnaka Municipality, the Rector of the University of Cyprus, members of  Nautical clubs, representatives of local NGOs and citizens- wearing a particularly creative T-Shirt with the image of Sea P eoples, the logo of MaRITeC-X and the slogan “Keep calm and watch Larnaka go Blue” participated in the 5 kilometers corporate race, demonstrating their support to this EU- funded project which is expected to play an important role in turning Larnaka into a Regional Blue Economy, Education, Training and Research Center. MaRITeC-X will be one of the most important blue growth initiatives that will be presented on board Thomson Spirit during her visit at Limassol P0rt on Wednesday 22nd of November 2017 at 17:45. The event entitled “Current Blue Growth Initiatives in Cyprus” is jointly organized between MarInEM, YoungShip Cyprus, CyNAMEA and Celestyal Cruises in order to inform the guests on the importance, the objectives and the state of play of such initiatives which seek to exploit the strong development potential of the marine and maritime sectors of the island and to transform it into a true International Marine and Maritime Education, Training, Research, Innovation and Technology Center.

 In the framework of the promotion of the "LARNAKA BLUE CITY" initiative, the Municipality of Larnaka, coordinator of MaRITeC-X, is pleased to announce that it will participate in the 1st International RADISSON BLU MARATHON which will be held on Sunday, 19th of November, 2017, at 11.30am on the coastal front of Phinikoudes at Larnaka. On Tuesday October 10th the Rector of the University of Cyprus Professor Constantinos Christofides and the Mayor of Larnaka Mr. Andreas Vyras officially announced the new “Faculty of Marine Science and Technology” of the University of Cyprus which will be based in Larnaka. The press conference took place at the Larnaka Municipal Art Gallery in the Presence of H.E. the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization Mr. Kitack Lim MaRITeC-X project being coordinated by the municipality of Larnaka that will host the new faculty, will seek close cooperation with the new faculty bridging academic education curricula with the research & innovation priorities of the future Centre of Excellence. From the 8th until the 11th of November Cyprus was at the spotlight of the international shipping sector due to the “Maritime Cyprus” Conference, which is an established biennial high level event in the country, attended by a large number of shipping executives and distinguished delegates from various shipping organizations. It is worth noting that the event was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, while distinguished guests such as the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization and the Commissioner in charge of Transport of the European Commission addressed the conference. Official MARITEC-X project kick-off The MaRITeC-X kick-off meeting was held on the 5th of October 2017 at the House of Arts and Literature, in Larnaka, Cyprus. All partner organizations from Cyprus, UK and Ireland attended the event which was welcomed warmly by Municipality of Larnaka officials. The kick-off meeting took place back to back with ground-breaking initiatives shaping the future of marine and maritime science, innovation and industry landscape in Cyprus and was celebrated among local and international stakeholders. During the meeting, hosted by Larnaka Municipality, partners discussed all essential steps towards submitting a successful business plan for the Teaming Phase 2 aligned to the overall Smart Specialization Strategy for Cyprus (S3Cy) and the European priorities on specific pillars with competitive advantages to the Cypriot economy. The MaRITeC-X  - Marine and Maritime Research, Innovation, Technology Centre of Excellence project A consortium led by the Municipality of Larnaka, Cypriot SMEs and numerous local stakeholders is building the MaRITeC-X Marine and Maritime Research Innovation and Technology Centre of Excellence.
