MaRITeC-X project team launches the second Knowledge transfer workshop with our advanced Teaming partner the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI) of the University of Southampton, UK. SMMI is a unique, internationally recognised centre of excellence for research, innovation and education and will be guiding closely MaRITeC-X into its own unique path of growth and excellence. The knowledge transfer workshop in Southampton, the last of a series of two events organised by our UK and Irish partners, will be hosted at the Boldrewood Innovation Campus, f the University of Southampton on the 16 & 17 May, 2018.

Our project continues and further expands its commitment to bring on board and create synergies with all academic instituions in Cyprus and beyond. Mr. Alexandros Josephides of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and chair of our project’s Advisory Board presented elements of MaRITeC-X project to 200 shipping executives and students during the "Maritime Forum Day" organized by Frederick University on Friday 27/4. Alexandros presented the importance of establishing a Centre of Excellence such as the MaRITeC-X that will bring together existing and new R&D capacities in the island of Cyprus and provide a first class employment opportunity to local and foreign researchers. MARINA Project international Workshop titled “What actions are needed for sustainable Maritime RTDI by 2030?” was organized by the Cyprus Neuroscience & Technology Institute (CNTI) and XPRO Consulting at the House of Arts and Literature in Larnaca on 11 April, 2018. This international workshop which was launched with the support of the Larnaka Municipality and the Maritime Institute of Eastern Mediterranean (Mar.In.E.M.) coordinator and partner of MaRITeC-X project respectively aimed at discussing the challenges that the maritime industry is facing and defining actions that will enable the industry to become resilient, responsible and sustainable. MaRITeC-X project was presented at the Maritime CIO Forums of 2018 that took place in Limassol on 27 March. During the event that was opened by Natasa Pilides, the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Shipping of the Republic of Cyprus an extensive presentation of our projects vision, current activities and future prospects was provided to an enthusiastic international audience of maritime industry stakeholders. Representative of Maritime Institute of Eastern Mediterranean, partner of MaRITeC-X project, while presenting elements of our strategy, stressed the importance of the digitalisation revolution of the maritime economy and transport and our aspiration to position MaRITeC-X as an important driver of scientific and industrial excellence in this emerging domain globally. MarInEM, partner of our project, participated and promoted MaRITeC-X at PRIMETEL 5KM Corporate Race part of the the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO that took place on the 23rd of March. Joining under the “Sea Peoples” banners, MaRITeC-X project members from the city of Limassol and beyond, run the 5 km race and communicated the notion to bring Cypriot society closer to the sea, which is a fundamental pillar of the MaRITeC-X project. MaRITeC-X teams members are attending the H2020 Responsible Research and Innovation project “MARINA”  workshop to discuss ways to  develop Marine Biotechnology as a source of local and sustainable economy in Cyprus. The workshop, which will take place at the Water Museum in Nicosia (09:00-18:00), is about bringing together people all kinds of stakeholders in Cyprus to generate ideas, discuss, choose and decide actions for helping to formulate a national Marine Biotechnology strategy in Cyprus through the Responsible Research and Innovation principles. SmartBay Ireland and the Marine Institute, MaRITeC-X partners from Ireland, organized a knowledge transfer workshop in the Marine Institute building, in Galway, Ireland on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th January 2018. The purpose of the workshop was to enrich the strategic planning of the MaRITec-X project, by showcasing the best practice example of the Marine Institute and SmartBay Ireland’s work in the field of marine research and innovation. It also provided an opportunity for other Irish marine research and innovation external bodies to highlight their work and activities in the Blue Growth Sector in Ireland. Every year, Hellenic Institute of Marine Technology organizes a scientific conference, the Annual Meeting of Marine Technology, a conference with associated events. This year, the Annual Meeting will take place on the 12th and 13th of December 2017 at the Eugenides Foundation. MaRITeC-X project members attended the 2017 Annual meeting of H.I.M.T. as part of the “Larnaka Blue City” and collaborative partner of the University of Cyprus postgraduate program to be launched September 2018. Following our first meeting during the kick-off meeting, MaRITeC-X launches the 2nd Plenary Session of the International Academic and Industry Advisory Board of MaRITeC-X which will take place on Friday, 15th of December, from 15:00 until 19:00 (local time), at the “Zenon” Coordination Centre in Larnaka. The session will have the form of a workshop, as important discussions will take place regarding the conduct of the gap analysis in priority Blue Economy sectors of Cyprus. In this context, a preliminary questionnaire will be distributed and commented upon, with a view to contributing to the effective mapping of these sectors’ needs.
