MarInEM, partner of our project, participated and promoted MaRITeC-X at PRIMETEL 5KM Corporate Race part of the the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO that took place on the 23rd of March. Joining under the “Sea Peoples” banners, MaRITeC-X project members from the city of Limassol and beyond, run the 5 km race and communicated the notion to bring Cypriot society closer to the sea, which is a fundamental pillar of the MaRITeC-X project. Representatives of the Maritime Institute of Eastern Mediterranean (Mar.In.E.M) participated in the MARINA Mobilization and Mutual Learning (MML) Workshop, which was organized on the 21st of February, at the Water Board Of Nicosia, by the Institute of Neuroscience and Technology of Cyprus (CNTI) in cooperation with XPRO Consulting and aimed at providing answers to the central question "How could we develop marine biotechnology as a source of local and sustainable economy in Cyprus?". MaRITeC-X teams members are attending the H2020 Responsible Research and Innovation project “MARINA”  workshop to discuss ways to  develop Marine Biotechnology as a source of local and sustainable economy in Cyprus. The workshop, which will take place at the Water Museum in Nicosia (09:00-18:00), is about bringing together people all kinds of stakeholders in Cyprus to generate ideas, discuss, choose and decide actions for helping to formulate a national Marine Biotechnology strategy in Cyprus through the Responsible Research and Innovation principles. SmartBay Ireland and the Marine Institute, MaRITeC-X partners from Ireland, organized a knowledge transfer workshop in the Marine Institute building, in Galway, Ireland on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th January 2018. The purpose of the workshop was to enrich the strategic planning of the MaRITec-X project, by showcasing the best practice example of the Marine Institute and SmartBay Ireland’s work in the field of marine research and innovation. It also provided an opportunity for other Irish marine research and innovation external bodies to highlight their work and activities in the Blue Growth Sector in Ireland. Every year, Hellenic Institute of Marine Technology organizes a scientific conference, the Annual Meeting of Marine Technology, a conference with associated events. This year, the Annual Meeting will take place on the 12th and 13th of December 2017 at the Eugenides Foundation. MaRITeC-X project members attended the 2017 Annual meeting of H.I.M.T. as part of the “Larnaka Blue City” and collaborative partner of the University of Cyprus postgraduate program to be launched September 2018. H.I.M.T. boasts of the high scientific merit of its Annual Meeting and, at the same time, of having established the focal event in Greece for discussing technological advances relating to the Greek and international shipping, from innovation to practical application. Following our first meeting during the kick-off meeting, MaRITeC-X launches the 2nd Plenary Session of the International Academic and Industry Advisory Board of MaRITeC-X which will take place on Friday, 15th of December, from 15:00 until 19:00 (local time), at the “Zenon” Coordination Centre in Larnaka. The session will have the form of a workshop, as important discussions will take place regarding the conduct of the gap analysis in priority Blue Economy sectors of Cyprus. In this context, a preliminary questionnaire will be distributed and commented upon, with a view to contributing to the effective mapping of these sectors’ needs. Wednesday 22nd of November 2017 MaRITeC-X was presented on board Thomson Spirit, of Celestyal Cruises during her visit at the impressive Limassol port. The event titled “Current Blue Growth Initiatives in Cyprus” was attended by a mix audience of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers from the CyNAMEA as well as the enthusiastic young students and maritime professionals of the YoungShip Cyprus, During the event, representatives of Blue Growth initiatives and projects in Cyprus such as ‘Mentor”, “MaRITeC-X”, and the new Faculty of Marine Science and Technology of the University of Cyprus, attempted to illustrate aspects of a promising future for marine and maritime research and innovation in Cyprus. MaRITeC-X was successfully promoted in the 1st Radisson Blu Marathon that took place in Larnaka on the 19th of November. Over 100 local participants –among them officials from the Larnaka Municipality, the Rector of the University of Cyprus, members of  Nautical clubs, representatives of local NGOs and citizens- wearing a particularly creative T-Shirt with the image of Sea P eoples, the logo of MaRITeC-X and the slogan “Keep calm and watch Larnaka go Blue” participated in the 5 kilometers corporate race, demonstrating their support to this EU- funded project which is expected to play an important role in turning Larnaka into a Regional Blue Economy, Education, Training and Research Center. MaRITeC-X will be one of the most important blue growth initiatives that will be presented on board Thomson Spirit during her visit at Limassol P0rt on Wednesday 22nd of November 2017 at 17:45. The event entitled “Current Blue Growth Initiatives in Cyprus” is jointly organized between MarInEM, YoungShip Cyprus, CyNAMEA and Celestyal Cruises in order to inform the guests on the importance, the objectives and the state of play of such initiatives which seek to exploit the strong development potential of the marine and maritime sectors of the island and to transform it into a true International Marine and Maritime Education, Training, Research, Innovation and Technology Center.

 In the framework of the promotion of the "LARNAKA BLUE CITY" initiative, the Municipality of Larnaka, coordinator of MaRITeC-X, is pleased to announce that it will participate in the 1st International RADISSON BLU MARATHON which will be held on Sunday, 19th of November, 2017, at 11.30am on the coastal front of Phinikoudes at Larnaka.
